The 15th ISHA Annual Scientific Meeting was the Society’s first meeting on the African continent, taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC 1), South Africa, from Thursday 5 to Saturday 7 October 2023.
At this meeting, world experts in hip preservation came together to share latest experiences and research with one another, and most importantly, to meet new colleagues with an interest in the hip and help to spread awareness of hip preservation in the region. The scientific programme offered something for everyone, being structured around seven rings of topics, representing the seven continents united by scientific education:
Patient Assessment and Pre-operative Planning
Role of Biologics in Hip Preservation
Patient Education
Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality
Arthroscopic Surgery
Open Hip Surgery
Nutrition, Well-being and Rehabilitation of the Elite Athlete and Others
As well as a dedicated post-conference Physiotherapy Programme on Saturday 7 October, which enjoyed the highest attendance to date, this Meeting involved a unique pre-conference “Africa Day” programme on Wednesday 4 October, which brought together medical professionals and industry representatives to discuss challenges and solutions specific to the African continent. It is hoped that the legacy of this meeting will be the creation of a regional MEAFT (Middle East, Africa and Turkey) working group, which will pursue projects to improve uptake of hip preservation and hip care across the region.
