Dr. Marc J. Philippon is a managing partner at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail Colorado. Dr. Philippon specialises in sports medicine/hip disorders and their management with hip arthroscopy. He has performed over 3500 hip arthroscopies. He has performed hip surgery in over 10 countries. He has treated over 380 elite Olympic / professional athletes with hip arthroscopy and consulted on many others. Dr Philippon was born in Canada and came to the US on an athletic scholarship to play collegiate soccer. He returned to Canada to earn his medical degree with an academic scholarship from McMaster University Medical School(the birthplace of evidence-based medicine), in 1990. He completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1995. Prior to coming to Vail, he was chief of orthopaedic surgery at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Director of sports related hip disorders and Director of the Golf Medicine Program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He was also a Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of Sports Medicine/hip arthroscopy fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. He is currently on the Steadman Hawkins Research Foundation Board of Directors and Scientific Advisory Committee. He also directs hip research at the Steadman Hawkins Research Foundation. He joined his hip arthroscopy fellowship with the Steadman Hawkins Clinic Sports Medicine Fellowship when he arrived in Vail. Dr. Philippon is an Active Member with the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He is also a Fellow with the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a Master Instructor with the Arthroscopy Association of North America, Masters Experience Hip Course, and an elected member of the Herodicus Society. He is a Founding Member of the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy. He also reviews for numerous sports medicine and orthopaedic journals.
Dr. Philippon lives with his wife and three children in Edwards, Colorado. He enjoys spending time with his family and participating in sports such as golf, ice hockey, and skiing.
